Goals
In order to better support graduate (Master's or PhD) students and postdoctoral fellows, the Sleep Network is proud to offer scholarship and fellowship supplements. These supplements are intended to support students and fellows who do not receive major scholarships from large funding agencies. It is not necessary to have obtained a grant to submit a request for a scholarship and fellowship supplement from the Sleep Network.
Available budget
The Sleep Network is bringing together financial partners to support this competition. A minimum budget of $50,000 is available for this funding opportunity, including $10,000 in financial support from the Université de Montréal and $10,000 from McGill University. This budget may be increased if new financial partners support this funding opportunity.
Scholarship and fellowship supplements will vary according to the candidate's level of study. For Master's students, the scholarship supplement will be $5,000. For doctoral students and postdoctoral fellows, the scholarship and fellowship supplement will be $10,000. Please note that student that used the doctoral fast-track will be considered as Master's students for their first two years of their doctorate.
Eligibility
- The person submitting the application must be enrolled full-time in a graduate or doctoral program, or be a postdoctoral trainee at a university institution in Quebec at the time of receiving the scholarship or fellowship supplement.
- The person submitting the application is supervised by a principal investigator affiliated with a managing institution in Quebec (according to FRQ rules), who meets the criteria of the Fonds de recherche du Québec and is a regular member of the Sleep Network.
- The person submitting the application is not already holding a scholarship or fellowship from a major funding agency (FRQ, CIHR, SSHRC, NSERC, or similar) or benefiting from research scholarships or fellowships exceeding $20,000 (cumulative amount) at the time of submitting the application.
- The person submitting the application may not submit a new application if they have already received a scholarship or fellowship supplement from the Sleep Network within the past two years, unless they have changed their program of study since receiving that supplement.
- The person submitting the application is conducting a research on sleep, circadian rhythms, or dreams.
Funding conditions
The principal investigator supervising the candidate must be listed as a co-investigator on the network grant, if they are not already, in order for the funding to be awarded. This requires the principal investigator's consent to be added as a co-investigator, as well as the inclusion of an FRQ CV in their FRQnet file, in order to receive the funding.
The funds will be transferred to the candidate’s research director’s institution so that the scholarship or fellowship supplement can be paid to the candidate.
