About

Mission

The Québec Sleep Research Network (Sleep Network) aims to propel sleep research toward a highly innovative and intersectoral science that has a concrete impact on the physical, psychological, and social well-being of the population across the lifespan.

Vision and Guiding Principles

The Sleep Network is committed to scientific excellence and innovation. Through an inclusive, consultative, and partnership-based scientific approach co-created with stakeholders, the Network supports and develops a research community dedicated to generating sustainable knowledge for society. Sleep-related issues will evolve thanks to the actions of the Network, but also because sleep is sensitive to societal (e.g., crises, pandemics, social media) and climatic changes. A continuous consultation process allows the Network to adapt its programming to address emerging challenges. The Network aspires to contribute to a paradigm shift—both scientific and political—by promoting sleep as a strategic lever for scientific, social, and economic development.

Objectives and Deliverables

  • Enhance Québec’s visibility at the provincial, national, and international levels through major discoveries in sleep and circadian science, achieved via new intersectoral and inter-institutional collaborations, the securing of major grants, and open science practices maximizing access to tools and data.
  • Better address societal challenges through collaborations among research teams, partners, knowledge users, and the wider community.
  • Train and support a new generation of scientists through approaches enriched by intersectorality, partnerships, and EDI principles.
  • Develop and validate technological tools to improve access to diagnosis of sleep and circadian disorders and to enable the study of large cohorts in ecological settings.
  • Advance personalized sleep medicine made possible through the analysis of big data, genetics, and biomarkers across diverse populations.
  • Consolidate and promote open science via platforms (databank and biobank, and analytical platforms) while ensuring data sustainability, sharing, and security.
  • Train physicians and professionals in health, social services, occupational health and safety, and education to promote the importance of sleep, prevent and screen for its disorders, and intervene effectively.
  • Deploy the “Provincial Action Plan for Knowledge Mobilization in Sleep” for the public, knowledge users, and decision-makers.

Réseau sommeil is financially supported by the Fonds de recherche du Québec — Santé (2024–2028). Additional initiatives are carried out with the financial support of academic and non-academic partners.
